Compliant plug-in solar kits on the ENA register
Since 27 August 2026 the question to ask of any plug-in solar kit in Great Britain is whether that exact model is listed as compliant on the ENA Type Test Register. We check the register ourselves and publish every kit it marks Compliant, with the register reference and the date we checked.This is a record of the register, not a ranking or a recommendation, and we have not tested these kits. For the law behind it, see the current UK legal status.

Legal to use in Great Britain since 27 August 2026
Plug-in solar has been legal to use in Great Britain since 27 August 2026, when SI 2026/848 came into force alongside Ofgem-approved changes to the G98 connection code — provided the kit is listed as compliant on the ENA Type Test Register. Northern Ireland is not covered. See the legal status for the current position and sources.
Why the register decides it
The government’s Interim Product Specification for plug-in solar puts the register at the centre of the rules. Section 7 says: “Manufacturers shall register devices on the ENA Type Test Register (ENA Direct Connect platform) and obtain confirmation that the device has been assessed and identified as compliant prior to placing them on the market. A device being submitted for registration shall not, in itself, be regarded as demonstrating compliance.”
That last sentence matters. An entry can sit on the register marked Non-compliant, so “it’s on the register” is not enough: the status has to read Compliant. The register is run by the Energy Networks Association (ENA), the industry body for the UK’s electricity and gas network operators, and “Plug-in Solar” is one of its device types.

How to check a kit yourself
- Open the ENA Type Test Register. It is free and needs no login.
- Open Filters and set Type to “Plug-in Solar”.
- Choose the manufacturer, or scan the list for the model.
- Match the model name and code exactly against the seller’s listing or the box.
- Check that the Compliance Status column reads “Compliant”, and note the System Reference. A seller should be able to quote it.
What a listing does not tell you
- Whether the kit is any good. We have not tested these kits, and the register does not rate output, build quality, warranty or price.
- Whether it fits the rules for your home. The rules allow one plug-in device per household, up to 800 VA, with no battery storage, and they do not cover Northern Ireland. See the UK legal status.
- What you still have to do. You must tell your network operator when you connect a kit. See G98 notification.
How we keep this list
We read the ENA’s own register data for the “Plug-in Solar” device type, record every entry with its reference, status and publication date, and publish the Compliant ones here in alphabetical order. Nobody pays to appear and nothing is ranked. The date of our last check is shown at the top of the list.
If you make or sell a kit and think an entry here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will check the register again.
Frequently asked questions
- Which plug-in solar kits are legal to use in the UK?
- In Great Britain, the test is whether the exact model is listed as compliant on the ENA Type Test Register. The list on this page shows every kit the register marked Compliant under its “Plug-in Solar” device type when we last checked, with each register reference. Northern Ireland is not covered by these rules.
- Is a kit covered if the inverter inside it is on the register?
- Go by the kit, not the inverter. On the register, kits built around the same microinverter appear as separate entries under each supplier’s own model name, so look for the exact model you are buying and check that its status reads Compliant.
- A kit I’m looking at is not on this list. What now?
- Check the live register first: our list is a dated snapshot and new kits are added often. If the model is not there, or its status is not Compliant, ask the seller for the register reference before you pay.
- Does a Compliant listing mean you recommend the kit?
- No. This page records what the register says. We have not tested these kits, we list them alphabetically, and nobody pays to be included.
- Are plug-in solar kits with batteries on the list?
- The government’s Interim Product Specification excludes “Plug-in battery systems” and “Plug-in solar PV devices integrated with battery systems”, so kits of that kind fall outside these rules. The list shows each model exactly as its supplier registered it.
