Editorial Policy
How we research, write, review and maintain independent guidance.
Published and reviewed
Named editorial responsibility
MyPlugInSolar is founded and edited by Christopher Panteli, who is responsible for editorial direction, research standards, the calculators and data tools, and the corrections process. He is not an electrician, solar installer, engineer or legal adviser, and does not personally certify electrical or legal guidance.
Source hierarchy
We prefer primary sources and work down a clear hierarchy:
- Official UK government, regulator and standards bodies (for example GOV.UK, DESNZ, Ofgem, the ENA, the IET and MCS).
- Manufacturer technical documentation and declarations for product specifications.
- Established datasets such as PVGIS for output modelling.
- Reputable secondary sources only to add context, never as the basis for a factual or legal claim.
Use of official and manufacturer documentation
Regulatory statements are based on official sources, and product specifications are taken from each manufacturer's published documentation, which we link. Figures we cannot verify from the manufacturer are left blank rather than estimated. We do not publish fabricated reviews, ratings, prices or compliance claims.
Treatment of unresolved claims
UK rules for plug-in solar are still being decided. Where the law or evidence is unresolved, we label the uncertainty clearly rather than presenting assumptions as confirmed facts. See the current UK legal status.
AI-assisted research and drafting
We may use AI tools to help with research, structuring and drafting. AI output is treated as a starting point, not a source: claims are checked against primary documentation, and a human editor is responsible for what is published. We do not publish AI-generated facts, figures or sources that have not been verified.
Human review
Every published page is reviewed by a human editor before it goes live and is dated so you can judge how current it is. Editorial responsibility sits with a named person, not an algorithm.
Technical-review policy
Some material benefits from specialist review. We only describe a page as technically reviewed when a named, suitably qualified reviewer has actually reviewed it. Where no such review has taken place, we do not display a reviewer or imply one. Specialist electrical, structural and legal decisions should always be checked with an appropriately qualified professional.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and note material changes. Spotted an error? Email hello@mypluginsolar.co.uk or use the contact page, and we'll review it.
Commercial independence
MyPlugInSolar is independent. We don't sell or install solar systems, and commercial relationships do not determine our editorial recommendations. Guidance is based on merit and suitability.
Affiliate relationships
We may, in future, use affiliate or retailer links to support the site. Where we do, we disclose it clearly — see our affiliate disclosure — and it does not influence our editorial judgement or recommendations.
Publication and review dates
We show when pages were published and last reviewed, and review key guides regularly because the UK rules are still evolving. For the sources behind our content, see the sources page.
